Serious darkness from a cute smiler.
With a country twang and a rock'n'roll heart, JoAnna's music is Serious Folk Rock.
She's bounced around a little. She's back in Virginia Beach, Virginia -- "Do they have surf there?" -- "honing" her skills in local nightclubs.
She's as nice on the phone as she is cute in her pictures. One of the nice rewards of these FOLK ROCK PODCASTS is that I get to make some really neat friends. So, as a friend I'm anxious to help these gifted artists I've selected for these Folk Rock Podcasts.
JoAnna told me stories of how she was quite a little starlet, jumping up on tables and chairs to perform for friends and relatives as a young girl. She is a natural "ham" which is important for every entertainer. She's got that special drive to perform and entertain that is lacking in most major stars.
JoAnna has taken her talents seriously with a couple years at Berklee School of Music, and singing in more than 10 choirs. She's even started her own record label and mentioned that she's planning to sign other artists to her label when that becomes possible.
I queried her as to her ambitions and goals, and was impressed by her straight-forward answers and unabashed honesty. She is an open book, an intriguing story, even if she is at chapter one.
When I select these artists for the Folk Rock Podcast, I try to look for some of the values and lofty morals of the original folk artists. Check out my excerpts from the SonicBids forum for more of my expectations and concepts of what Folk Rock is.
Although I didn't discover any social agendas or criticisms of society in JoAnna's music or conversation, I was still impressed by her natural desire to perform, her love of music, and gosh darn cuteness. So, what she lacks in worldly awareness, she makes up for in a joy of life.
JoAnna is a mixture of country, folk, and rock. I'd really enjoy producing your next album!
